The Online MBA Program

The 33-credit (11-class) online MBA from the Heider College of Business offers busy professionals a flexible option for completing an MBA degree. Over 11 eight-week terms, the curriculum allows you to finish in two years and eight weeks. Want to finish even faster? Take more than one course at a time or combine some online and some on-campus classes.

Students taking online MBA classes will be a combination of online-only students and residential students who wish to accelerate their degree completion (or have a work-related reason for opting for an online course in any given term).

According to U.S. News & World Report, an MBA adds sophistication and flexibility to a job seeker’s toolkit because it translates into cutting-edge thinking in finance, marketing and capital markets.

There are career opportunities in every type of business with large corporations, small or mid-size firms, nonprofit organizations and consulting or entrepreneurial pursuits. Specific areas could include human resources, information technology, finance, operations and supply chain management, among many others.

A study by Georgetown University reports that attaining a graduate degree in business provides an average earnings boost of 40 percent.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants to the online program may hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study outside of business, and submit a GMAT or GRE score. Admission is based upon a combination of the applicant’s cumulative grade point average and GMAT score (GPA x 200 + GMAT score = 1,100 points).  GRE scores are converted to their GMAT equivalent using a published score converter.

Applicants with undergraduate business degrees can take the online MBA Core (MBA 771, MBA 775, MBA 776) and the online MBA Seminars shown in the course schedule list to complete a significant portion of the degree program (6 of 11 classes). The remaining five classes would be chosen from the Tier 2 courses in the traditional residential (in-person) MBA program. Future plans call for offering more electives so that the student with a business undergraduate degree can also complete an MBA entirely online.

The MBA at Creighton (both residential and online) is a non-thesis program. All students complete the capstone course MBA 775 (Strategic Management) which requires students to take the role of upper management to develop strategic responses to business situations.

Applicants for admission to the MBA program must have a baccalaureate degree and an acceptable level of scholarship from an accredited institution of higher education. Students entering the program also need to show evidence that they have completed at least one statistics course in their undergraduate degree. Students without such a class may complete a noncredit statistics tutorial offered for a fee.
