Our Tradition Shapes Our Approach to Education

Founded in 1878, Creighton is one of 27 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States. The Society of Jesus—the world’s largest Catholic religious order of priests and brothers—was founded in the 16th century by St. Ignatius of Loyola. Jesuits, as members of the Society of Jesus, continue the Ignatian tradition by advancing education worldwide.

Many Jesuits live and work on the Creighton campus as professors, administrators, coaches and students. Their influence is seen in and out of the classroom: Academics are rigorous and push students to strive for excellence. Faculty and staff support the development of their students in heart, mind and soul. Graduate students of all ages and beliefs are encouraged to share their gifts and become agents of change that will pursue a more just world.

“Each student receives special attention, but it's that attention that helps them to be independent.”
— Jeffrey Hause, PhD | Professor, College of Arts and Sciences

Our Spirit is White and Blue, Through and Through

Creighton’s mascot has been the blue jay since 1924, and we’ve been part of the BIG EAST conference since 2013. Our graduate students and other fans far and wide cheer proudly for Bluejay athletics, including basketball, baseball, cross-country, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball teams.

We love seeing graduate students decked out in blue and white at home games, but you can cheer from afar too! Our alumni network hosts game viewing events across the country.
